Geneva

We spent four days in Geneva and enjoyed them as much as any of our other stops in Switzerland. In addition, we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary here including a wonderful dining experience at a 20 person Italian restaurant called La Cittadella in Old Town Geneva. We could easily return to this beautiful city. Switzerland is a beautiful country.

25 Years

We like to celebrate our wedding anniversaries in different places around the world. We got married at a small country inn by a Justice of the Peace in West Townshend Vermont on October 2 1998. For our 25th we chose Switzerland and today we happened to be in Geneva. We had a wonderful day in this beautiful city topped off by a great meal at an intimate 20 seat Italian restaurant, La Cittadella.

We’ve been fortunate to have traveled the U.S. together over the years including Alaska and ten times to Hawaii plus other spots in the world including half a dozen countries in South and Central America, Japan, sixteen countries in Europe, six countries in the Caribbean, Canada and Morocco. Most of the time we remember to take a picture of us together so this post is to share some of our favorites from around the globe.

Lucerne Switzerland

Lucerne is a very beautiful city. It sits on the shore of Lake Lucerne and then straddles the Reuss River which is fed by the lake. It has beautiful medieval architecture, a vibrant Old Town area, a 14th century wall, two wooden bridges (the beautiful Chapel Bridge dates to 1333), a beautiful Jesuit church and two interesting art museums. One of the museums is a private collection of over 300 works accumulated by the Rosengart family who were friends of Picasso and the majority of the works are his.

If I have a negative about Lucerne it is that it is over run with tour groups. When cities in Europe are crowded with individual travelers, it usually is not an issue. But so many large groups hanging together with their guides diminish the experience for others.

And while Switzerland is the most expensive place we have traveled, Lucerne is a step above the rest of the country, probably in part because of the tour group traffic. But none of that detracts from its incredible beauty.
